Last night the hubby and I got dressed up to head downtown to attend the Colorado Ballet’s performance of the Nutcracker! For me, watching a performance of The Nutcracker is hands down the best way to celebrate the holiday season. Since I was a little girl, I’ve been captivated by the story of The Nutcracker. I also have a love for ballet….so when you put the two together for me, it’s perfection!
It’s been a few years since we’ve attended The Nutcracker (having babies in the house and being pregnant has made it harder to attend), so this year I was SO excited to go! (Like GIDDY excited)
We arrived a little early to be able to grab a drink before the show. There’s a full bar!! Once we found our seats the excitement set in. Every seat in the house really is a great seat. I can attest to this because I’ve sat in most sections inside the Ellie Caulkins opera house.
If you’ve never attended the Colorado Ballet’s performance, you’re in for a treat. There’s a live orchestra playing Tchaikovsky’s famous compositions. This alone is entertaining and a treat… to listen to such talent playing live. Each song made me feel like a kid on Christmas!
The props, back drops and costumes are NYC grade. I expect to see performance like this on Broadway…but it’s right here in Denver! We’re so lucky to live in such a culturally entertaining city!
And of course the main attraction and the best part of the performance are the ballerinas. Their performances, grace, athleticism, and beauty are truly captivating. I found myself completely engulfed in the performance and their perfection in their art.
And ladies…I know it can be hard to get your husband to really want to go to the ballet. Let me tell you that my husband, who is all that is burly man, enjoyed the performance as well! (I think the bar was also a good incentive for him.) Tip: if you order your drinks before the show begins, you can also order your drinks for the intersession and skip standing in line. Your drink will be waiting for you when you walk out of the opera house doors. We took advantage of this handy option and it saved us time…so we could really enjoy our drink and take a bathroom break before the 2nd scene.
I really can’t wait to bring my daughter to this ballet, she just turned 3 this year, but I think by next year she will really enjoy this performance. There were so many families with little girls dressed up in their Christmas dresses. That was truly precious to see as so many of them were so excited to be there! What a sweet family experience right!?
Another great tip: there’s convenient parking in the parking garage right next door for $12 and many good restaurants within walking distance! There’s also hotels directly across the street, so if you really want to make a night of it, you can walk to your hotel room! We made an evening of our ballet experience and enjoyed the lights and ambiance of being downtown during the holidays! Something everyone should experience!
The hour and fifty minute performance is running from now until December 27th…and you can still get tickets! You will be surely impressed! I know I was!
As an extra incentive, my readers receive 20% OFF the 1st 3 weeks of Colorado Ballet’s The Nutcracker. Click here and use Code: KIDS to purchase your tickets!
