Updated Kitchen Reveal – Done with Rust-oleum

This post is not a paid review, it’s simply a fun and much needed update that we recently did in our kitchen.  I’m so excited about it, I thought I’d share it with my readers!

A little history behind this kitchen:  We moved into our home 2 years ago and have completely gutted and re-done 90% of the house, down to the baseboards being replaced. Our home isn’t that old either, only about 10 years.  Which says a lot about the previous owners.  (Who by the way did not take good care or have pride in their home).  The dark wood floors were the first improvement we made to the home when we moved in, I couldn’t stand living in a home with dirty carpets and floors.  With the dark floors, we knew we’d have to replace or refinish all the cabinets in the home to match, since they were all cheap and ugly builders oak.  Yuck. (No offense if you like oak…it just REALLY clashes with dark wood…and you can see below).  We failed at taking any before pictures to be able to really show people how much of a difference it made in our home.  But I did find this gem of a picture below, from a 2012 Halloween/1st Birthday party for Violet.  (If my friends check my blog and see this photo, I apologize in advance.  But it is funny).  ANYhow, this is what our cabinets used to look like.  Such an eye sore to look at.

We used a cabinet restoration kit from Rust-oleum to get the job done.  After reading many reviews, we chose the kit in White Linen.  This kit is awesome for many reasons but one that particularly stood out is that you don’t need to sand down the cabinets before you start.
We set up a work station all around our kitchen.  Let me stop right here and give my husband FULL credit for the work that was done.  He did 100% of it, only because he’s a control freak when it comes to projects like this and wouldn’t let me touch it.

(Window fan was much needed to get rid of the fumes! Babies in the house with fumes = no bueno).

We also bought new door pulls and handles to put on each cabinet.  I LOVE how it turned out…

No more oak! No more oak! Yeahhh!  And the best part is it doesn’t look painted at all.  It looks like white wood.  Similar to what our doors look like below.  These were not painted/re-finished with the kit.  Just a comparison.  But now it all matches so well!  I’m so pleased with the results.

Rust-oleum Kitchen White Refinished Cabinets

We had a 4th of July party and everyone thought we also got new countertops.  (Which we didn’t)  Just goes to show you how much of a change it made in the kitchen thanks to a box full of paint products!

Overall it was a long process and it took almost a week to complete.  It cost about $150 to completely re-finish our whole kitchen.  If you don’t have the budget for new cabinets, this is a great option if you have the time and patience.  It is worth it….promise!
