Disclaimer: I was provided with tickets to the show for my honest review
Since Pierce (my 3rd) was born, I’ve had no time one one one with my other 2 kids. I decided it was time to have some mommy/daughter time away from our daily hustle and bustle. A girls night out downtown was something I’ve never done with my daughter but always wanted to. The ballet is something all little girls must experience. When I saw that Sleeping Beauty was playing at the Colorado Ballet I knew it would be a perfect show to go see!
We started out the night eating at a pizza restaurant a block away form the theatre. After a dinner of her choice, complete with dessert, we headed over to the show.
It was her first time to the ballet (that she remembers) and she was COMPLETELY enthralled with the show. I kept looking over at her to see her cute little face watching the ballet, smiling, amazing at the sights and dancing by the Colorado Ballet.
Personally, I love the ballet. I grew up doing ballet and still to this day I have a love for it. Watching this amazing art form is something I never grow tired of. My daughter on the other hand has never really showed an interest in the ballet. She tried ballet at the age of 5 and “didn’t love it”. So I was hoping by bringing her to the ballet, that she would share in my love for it! Well….my plan worked!
All she could do after the show was talk about how it was her “best night ever!”
She raved about the costumes, the dresses, the dancing and the experience as a whole! (She’s 6 years old as a reference). She asked me later if we can go to the ballet every year as a mommy/daughter date! Which I think we will make a new tradition out of it. No brothers, no daddy, just me and my daughter!
Sleeping Beauty is a classic story that everyone knows and loves and the Colorado ballets rendition does not disappoint! Their performance is amazing to say the least.
Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty premiered in 1890 and remains one of the most performed and beloved ballets today. A collaboration between legendary choreographer Marius Petipa and composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Sleeping Beauty is based on Charles Perrault’s La Belle au bois dormant and was first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.
This classic fairy-tale tells the story of the beautiful princess Aurora, who falls under the spell of a wicked fairy on her 16th birthday. Under the curse of this spell, the princess and entire village fall into 100 years of sleep. Only the kiss of true love can awaken the princess and break the spell. With the help of the Lilac Fairy, Prince Desirée must find his way to the sleeping princess in order to save his newfound love. Joy and a celebratory wedding ensue after the fateful kiss
If you’re wanting to experience the ballet for yourself…you can attend one of the following performances.
