40 Weeks to Parenthood – Good Samaritan Medical Center

*Disclaimer: The following post is sponsored.  All opinions are my own.

It’s been almost ten years that I began nursing school and seven years since I’ve become a nurse.  It really seems like time has just flown by, I must admit that in these last ten years I really have learned a lot!  One thing about nursing school that you’ll never forget, aside from how incredibly demanding and grueling it can be, is how many wonderfully talented medical professionals there are out there.  Something that is rarely talked about nowadays. The hospitals that stand out and go above and beyond.

Rotations are a part of nursing school where you go to different hospitals and specialties to see which area you want to work in.  One of my favorite rotations in nursing school was done at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette Colorado.

During my time spent at Good Sam’s (as the locals call it) I saw firsthand how amazing and compassionate the nurses and medical staff were!  When you walk into Good Samaritan you first notice how beautiful the facility is, complete with amazing mountain views. Once you’re inside the hospital, you witness the gifted staff that calls Good Samaritan home.

Colorado’s first Baby-friendly hospital

Good Samaritan Medical Center boasts being Colorado’s first Baby-friendly hospital, designated by the WHO and UNICEF.  Like myself, they are passionate about breastfeeding and know about the many benefits for families that are visiting the hospital! These include:

  • Healthy babies – Scientific studies show that breastfed children have fewer and less serious illnesses than children who aren’t.
  • Healthy moms ̶ Studies also show that mothers who breastfeed have decreased risk for certain cancers and illnesses.
  • Highest standards ̶ Baby-Friendly hospitals’ staff and facilities must meet guidelines and follow specific steps created by a team of global experts to ensure the best possible environment for breastfeeding.
  • Cost savings ̶ Breast milk is free, and healthier children mean lower healthcare costs.
  • Emotional bond ̶ You and your baby can enjoy the special bond formed through breastfeeding.

Not only did I notice this during my rotations, it stuck with me since having my own children.  The lessons that I learned in my time at Good Samaritan helped me to make decisions for my own children when it came time to breastfeed.

While there are many amazing hospitals in the region, I enjoyed my time spent at Good Samaritan for so many reasons, and saw the amazing care that patients are given.  With caring and compassionate staff, Good Sam’s is a #1 choice for any family in Colorado.

Breastfeeding awareness

The month of August is Breastfeeding awareness month, so any families passionate about nursing, be sure to share your own story about how breastfeeding has impacted your family and children.  I know I will be!

For any families looking in the Denver area for the hospital to deliver their baby at, stop by Good Samaritan and see for yourself how amazing this hospital is!  You’ll be happy you did.
