The One Thing you need to be doing EveryDay for your Health and the Environment

Biking to Work and the Impact YOU Can Make

This post was sponsored by Allegra® Allergy but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

On June 28th, the Denver metro area celebrated their annual Bike to Work Day! It’s a day that I’ve participated in for many years (since my days working and living in Boulder, where every day is bike to work day).

So every year to inspire and motivate the Denver metro area to start their day on the right foot (or pedal), they host an annual bike to work day! It’s an event that goes on around the country now!

Have you ever participated?

WHY BIKE TO WORK?

A recent survey found that a majority of Americans (88%) are concerned about the impact of air pollution on their overall health.* Personally, I am one of those Americans. Are you? It also found that most Americans (90%) wish there was more they could do to get involved and help reduce air pollution.

Biking to work

Riding a bike to work instead of driving is a great place to start.

Personally, I work about 3 miles from my home so biking to work is very doable when I’m not dropping the kids off at daycare or school.  Since my husband is home for the summer (lucky teachers!), I’m free all summer to bike to work!

Not only is it a great way to start my morning and get some exercise, I’m doing my part to help reduce air pollution and improve our air quality.

BIKE TO WORK DAY EXPERIENCE

I live in the suburbs, so I was not able to enjoy the festivities downtown on June 28th, but I still participated…which is all that matters, right? 🙂  I left my house with an extra 15 minutes to give me more time to bike to work. I wore my regular work clothes, and a backpack instead of my purse.

My ride in was easy…cool and so enjoyable!

 Biking to work

I arrived to work feeling awake, refreshed and ready to be productive. Something I rarely feel when driving my car. My morning started off on the right foot and my whole day was just as enjoyable. There’s really something to be said about starting your day off right, don’t you think?

Riding your bike not only helps the environment, it’s a great way to enjoy being outside, smelling the fresh morning air and feeling the sun! Not something most of us get to enjoy while working inside all day!

BIKE TO WORK IN YOUR AREA?

This year Allegra Allergy supported several Bike to Work Day events across the country including Denver, Philadelphia, Dayton, Chattanooga, and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area!

Allegra Allergy is an antihistamine that offers adults fast** non-drowsy relief from indoor and outdoor allergy symptoms – including itchy and watery eyes and a runny nose.  Allegra Allergy is helping more people feel comfortable enjoying an outdoor commute by relieving their allergy symptoms!  Since I experience seasonal allergies, I was sure to take my Allegra Allergy before heading out the door on my bike!

A NEW ROUTINE

Now that I’ve seen how easy riding to work (in the suburbs) is, I’m inspired to make 1-2 days a week my ride to work days. I’m committed to not only helping the environment, but helping myself be more active each day! Enjoying the outdoors and feeling great when you get to work is a great way to start the day!

Every day should be bike to work day, don’t you think?

I’d love to hear your experiences with biking to work!  What handy tips do you have for newbies?
