Outdoor Fun – ABC’s and 123’s Hopscotch Game

Learning Styles

Every child learns different.  We all know that, and I’m witnessing it currently with my own children.  My 6 year old girl learned well with repetition, repeating and singing songs to learn her ABC’s and 123’s.  She was able to recognize letters by the age of 3 and now in Kindergarten she’s reading at a 2nd grade level.

My son has not been as excited about the singing and repetition approach.  I’ve tried flash cards, he’s not a fan.

His attention lasts about 3 cards then he’s done. (He’s a typical boy with no attention concerns, he just wants to move around…his learning style)

I’ve tried ipad games…I’m not a fan.  And yet again he gets bored after a few minutes.

Get Outside

Then one day while watching him bounce around the backyard I realized that he needed to MOVE around when he’s learning his ABC’s and 123’s.

So, we got out the sidewalk chalk and made up a game….a fun ABC’s and 123’s Hopscotch game.

Fun Outdoor ABC Hopscotch

ABC’s Hopscotch –

HOW TO PLAY THE GAME:

Write out the ABC’s in a line, rotating sides like a hopscotch game.

Choose upper case, lower case or both!

Have your child yell out the letter as they hop…or help them sing along and make sure they’re taking their time jumping and recognizing the letter/number.

It’s actually very easy and fun for little ones.  Not only do they get to practice their number and letter recognition, they get to move around while doing it!  My 4 year old enjoyed playing for well over 30 min with his sister since she was quizzing him and they started to compete to see who could get though the alphabet the fastest!

Overall it’s a fun outdoor game, that got my kids moving and practicing their ABC’s!

Try it out with your little ones today!
