Here’s something you may not know about me…my full-time job is not blogging.  #goals. My full time job is actually working as a pediatric RN in an elementary school of almost 1,000 students and staff.  I’m a school nurse. 🙂 This entails having my own clinic where I see the sickest students in the school.  Illness = germs. Germ city is actually what I call it.

I have a rockin’ immune system by now, but it wasn’t always that way.  When I first started working as an RN in the schools I was sick every 4 weeks.  I have impeccable hand hygiene but when a student coughs into your face, there’s not a whole lot that’s going to save you.

As you can probably guess, my cleaning routine is on point!  I’m about to share some of those secrets with you today.

In my own home I’m all about the chemical free, organic lifestyle.  When a student ‘looses his lunch’ all over the floor, as I tell my husband, I’m not about to use all natural products.  Sorry Organic fans, but when I need to use a disinfectant I can trust to get the job done.  I reach for the Lavender Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, Clorox Liquid Bleach, and Pine-Sol Lavender scents which I can pick-up at my local Walmart.Walmart Aisle

Why this combo?  I’ll explain.

Cleaning in layers is the routine I have developed over the years.  I know my school based clinic is clean with the following method.  (I also have adopted these methods in my own home). He’s what it looks like.

Step 1: Clean

I start with straightening up and de-cluttering, as I call it.  (Getting rid of items that are not necessary and overall organizing).  It’s not possible to clean my clinic or home without being able to fully reach every square inch!  Germs live on surfaces, which then are called fomites.  Depending on the germ they can live for days without a host, i.e. human. Which brings me to my next step…. Pine Sol Pour

Step 2: Disinfect

The goal is to kill the germs!  I trust Clorox bleach to take care of the heavy duty germs that nothing else kills.  Norovirus (the stomach flu bug) is a hard bug to kill.  A mixture of Clorox bleach and water will be sure to get the job done. Don’t believe me?  Even the CDC says so!  Spray it on the areas you need to disinfect.  See, you’re on your way to disinfecting like a pro!

Clorox Lavendar wipesBe sure you’re using Clorox on surfaces that cannot be bleached.  Tiles and counter tops are my usual places to use bleach as a disinfectant!  I also use Clorox Disinfecting Wipes in Lavender scent to wipe down door handles, desktops and any areas that are touched often! Not only does it clean and get rid of all the germs, it leaves the room smelling fresh and calming.  Both disinfectants clean 99.9% of household bacteria.  Those are some numbers I can get behind to keep my surroundings clean!

Clorox CleanMy clinic and home are finally feeling clean…on to the next step.

Step 3: Aromatize

You’ve cleaned away the germs it’s time to make your home, or in my case my clinic, smell clean!  My favorite scent is lavender when it comes to home fragrances.  I love the calming and natural scents.  Pine-Sol Lavender cleans and deodorizes, leaving fresh, clean scents. I LOVE to use it in my clinic bathroom, and on the floors to keep the room smelling clean for days to come.  Together with the Clorox wipes in lavender, your room should be smelling amazing.   Aromatize after cleaning and disinfecting to keep your home, or place of work smelling fresh for days!  I don’t know about you, but I feel better mentally when my surroundings are clean, and I can smell it!
